Venture Storytelling
How to build a startup pitch as a story using the design thinking cycle, from vision and purpose through the problem, the solution and the plan to scale, first delivered at the UOB FinLab GreenTech Accelerator 2022.
Patrick Ng, Venture Creation Instructor & Deep-Tech Mentor
Patrick Ng uses the design thinking cycle to find the story before telling it: observe existing behaviour and the industry landscape, find gaps, confirm the customer segment is large enough, then find a solution better than the alternatives. Drawing on Sara Beckman and Michael Berry's work on design and innovation through storytelling, he turns that into a pitch structure.
The pitch opens with vision, purpose and why the idea matters, explains why the problem deserves a better solution and who benefits, shows the solution and its feasibility, lays out the plan to scale, introduces the team and the support needed, and closes on the impact the venture will make. The material was delivered during the UOB FinLab GreenTech Accelerator Programme 2022.
