Patrick Ng opens with a 2024 case, reported by the World Economic Forum, in which a company lost US$25 million to a transfer authorised on a call with a deepfaked CEO while every cyber defence was working. His point is that attackers now operate at machine speed, and security built for human-speed response becomes a business liability through alert volume, response latency and new attack variety.

He frames AI defence through the confidentiality, integrity and availability triad: automated response to protect uptime and revenue, AI-assisted security operations to cut noise and reduce regulatory exposure, and behavioural threat hunting to keep data trustworthy. He also covers security co-pilots that raise the output of existing analysts, and argues that adopting AI defence is a business strategy decision rather than a technology one.
